I felt an urge to laugh...

...when I read this.

He's so deluded.

There are 3 things that should happen before he can even begin mending the cracks and convince us he is worthy of his position.

1) Son-in-law should NOT be made a full minister.

2) Keris-wielder should give a public apology and not be given a significant post in Cabinet.

3) Get rid of ISA.

And they say they're shocked?

Go into any online forums before the elections and the general sentiment was, people would rather vote for a cat, a cow or a monkey, as long as it's not for the coalition government.

No matter what propaganda they put on our very pro-government media, no matter how many million (of taxpayers' money) they spend on telling us how they've contributed to the nation, people are not stupid, deaf or blind.

No rhetoric about how they "protect our rights regardless of race or creed" would make people forget how component party heads kept quiet when injustices were made to the minorities. Nor would they forget the excuses they spouted to toe the line drawn by a keris-wielding higher power.

So much so, people would rather vote for inexperienced, new faces. Candidates who have no master but the rakyat. And they did.

And they say they're shocked? They need a post mortem to analyse what went wrong? They must be kidding. If they have been paying attention at all, they should know why we are unhappy. And no amount of feel good commercials would convince us otherwise.

The people have spoken.
And because the coalition are still in power (no thanks to gerrymandering), it is time they listen.

This time, we deny them 2/3 majority.
But if Malaysia continues to be plundered by the well connected, who knows what will happen in the next elections.

Meanwhile, let's pray that the opposition don't muck up the 5 states they've won. Everyone is watching with bated breath.

Bollocks

I've always been apathetic about politics in this country, or anywhere else for that matter. I feel all politicians are full of bull, and like most people, I put up with it. But it's come to a point where "putting up" will no longer sit well with my conscience. Not at the rate the greedy, lazy 'leaders' of this country are working for the 'betterment' of the people.

I'm not pro any political party. But I believe there should be a balance of voices in parliament. And in the past 50 years, that balance has been sorely missing. While realistically speaking, we know the current coalition will win somehow (they will find a way, by hook or by crook, most likely the latter), the least we could do is not let them win with a big margin.

Here are the facts, taken from a Facebook group.

WHY WE CANNOT GIVE THEM 2/3 OF PARLIAMENT

1. Barisan lost 2/3 majority once, in 1969. Only briefly.

2. Since 1957, it has amended the constitution 690 times to propagate its power. By comparison, USA which is more 200 years old has only amended its constitution 27 times; Singapore as little as only 4 times.

3. Barisan's ability to amend the constitution as it likes (and make unjust and unfair constitutional changes) must be stopped now.


Statistics from the 2004 election:

1. UMNO received 35.9% of the popular votes but has 110 parliamentary seats or 50% of all parliamentary seats.

2. In total, Barisan received 63.8% of the popular votes but has 199 parliamentary seats or 91% of all parliamentary seats.

3. The opposition received 36.2% of the popular votes but has only 20 parliamentary seats or 9% of all parliamentary seats.

4. Why? Because of gerrymandering , or unfair election rules. The election rules are stacked against the opposition. No matter what happens, the opposition will never, I repeat, will never be able to win the next election.


Decision-making processes within our present cabinet.

1. UMNO not only controls the parliament via Barisan, it has allocated itself 24 cabinet positions or 73% of all cabinet positions.

2. MCA has 4 cabinet positions or 12% of the cabinet positions.

3. MIC has 1 cabinet position or 3 % of the cabinet positions.

4. Gerakan has 1 cabinet position or 3% of the cabinet positions.

5. Other component parties hold 3 cabinet positions or 9% of the cabinet positions.

6. The opposition with 36.2% of all the popular votes is not given a single cabinet position.


Although UMNO controls 50% of all parliamentary seats, it controls 73% of all the decision making processes within the cabinet.

Many marginalization issues or unfair election practices are the result of legislations passed by Barisan (lead by UMNO) unchecked in a dominant Barisan parliament.

Under the Barisan Party whip system, the majority component party within Barisan will dictate the rules of the game. Other Barisan component parties like MCA, Gerakan or MIC cannot vote against what UMNO decides in whatever it likes, even if they wanted to.

Even if the opposition won all the seats it contested, no single opposition party can form the next government. Why? Gerrymandering (of the present election borders) has ensured that even if Barisan were to win 50% of the popular votes in the upcoming election, it will still control 2/3 of parliament.

As an example, in 2004 Barisan took 64% of the popular votes but ended up controlling 91% of parliament. It is not easy to see why if they win only 50% of the popular votes in the next election they will once again be able to dictate absolute power in the parliament.

This is a democratic country? Bollocks.

So if you have registered to vote, do so tomorrow. It's almost futile, but if we deny them of 2/3 majority, it will send out a message.

If you haven't registered to vote, do so for the next election. The country will one day be sucked dry by these greedy vampires. Our rich natural resources can only last us so long. Some say another 20 years at most. The people will have nothing left, while those in power enjoy million-dollar homes abroad, living on money siphoned out of honest taxpayers.

Nothing to do but pray

Lina Joy lost her appeal again yesterday.

I don't understand it. The gomen is so hadap to become a developed nation, but simple human rights like the freedom to choose your own religion* (much less freedom of speech) cannot be given to her people. How lah like that!
*in Malaysia, all Malays by default, are Muslim

Her story (from The Star):

Lina, 42, was born Azlina Jailani to Malay parents. She was brought up as a Muslim but at the age of 36 became a Christian.

In 1999, she managed to change the name in her identity card to Lina Joy but the National Registration Department retained her religion in the card as Islam.

On April 23, 2001, the High Court refused to decide on her application to renounce Islam as her religion on grounds that the issue should be decided by the Syariah Court. It also dismissed her application for an order to direct the department to drop the word “Islam” from her identity card.

Her appeal was last rejected on Sept 19, 2005 at the Court of Appeal, in a majority decision.

She is extremely unhappy with the Federal Court judgment yesterday.

“I am disappointed that the Federal Court is not able to vindicate a simple but important fundamental right that exists in all persons; namely, the right to believe in the religion of one's choice and equally important, the right to marry a person of one's choice and to raise a family in the Malaysia context.

“The Federal Court has not only denied me that right but to all Malaysians who value fundamental freedoms,” she told The Star, through her solicitor Benjamin Dawson.

“I am hoping that my case would have made a difference to the development of constitutional issues in the plight of many others.”

We can only pray and hope she doesn't give up.
