Nut & Itchy are back!
Our annual holiday in a nutshell:
Too much food. Too much shopping.
The good:
- We had a good mix of a beach and city holiday.
- We stayed in rather 'interesting' accomodation.
- We made good use of our BTS cards, travelling to all corners of Bangkok. We literally went from one end to another on BOTH Sukhumvit and Silom lines.
- We rode on motorbikes. We seem to do this every holiday, intentionally or not.
- We sat on all types of transport, from the BTS to MRT to river taxis to buses to tuk-tuks to cabs.
- We ate alot of different things at different parts of Bangkok, seeking out authentic Thai eating places not many tourists know about. We also had some good food at food courts, a great steakhouse and at the place we ate and enjoyed last year, Siam House, next to Asia Hotel.
- In our search for food, we got to see some parts of Bangkok we wouldn't have seen otherwise.
- Platinum. Shopping paradise. Also a wonderful food court upstairs. Beats the Siam Center food court flat.
- We bought lots of stuff.
The bad
- The hotel at Cha-Am fell below expectations, although it was a rather unique and charming place. The beach wasn't very good, and there was construction going on next door, which sucked.
- The hotel in Bangkok was really nice and cheap, but too far away from everything. The website said 5 minutes from the On Nut BTS. They lied. It was a 10-minute walk. And we walk fast. On Nut also happens to be the last stop on the Sukhumvit line.
- It was raining on and off. It cooled down the hotter days but limited our sun-worshipping, and made the ground quite icky and wet.
- Drank too much beer the first few days.
- Travelling by tuk-tuk in peak hour traffic was probably equivalent to smoking a pack of cigarettes.
- We bought lots of stuff.
(we arrived with a combined luggage of less than 15kg. When we left, we were almost overweight, but I opted to carry one of my bags to plane to avoid the excess baggage fee)
My backside's on fire.
My stomach and bowels sure ain't what they used to be.
Details and pictures to follow once I get myself organised.
Meanwhile, work beckons. Bleh.
