How much is that doggy in the window?

I want a dog.

And after visiting http://www.puppy.com.my I'm absolutely going WOOF!

I don't have a big house.
So my dog of choice, a labrador or a golden retriever
is out of the question.

Another problem - mom.
She's an obsessive-compulsive cleanliness and hygiene freak (my floors are so clean you can eat from them). She'd probably go beserk at the prospect of an animal taking pee-pees or poo-poos in her "germ-free" house.

I'm thinking of a Mini Schnauzer or a Beagle.
They hardly shed if groomed regularly. They're friendly. And can keep my dad company when he's bored at home.

So how do I talk my mother into this...

(an imagined conversation)
Me: Mom, it's the year of the dog this coming Chinese New Year.

Mom: Hai-lor... gow neen. Lei gor sai low sook gow (Yes, year of the dog. Your brother was born in the year of the dog).

Me: Let's get a dog. For good luck.

Mom: Lei chi sin ah? Gow? Yeong yan du yat san goong! (Are you mad? A dog? Take care of humans (in reference to the family) already so much work!)

Me: But I'll take care of it. And look how cute and clever he is! (shows her the dog)

Mom: Yau mou gao chor!! Haiyoo!! @#$%$%^$%^#$#$%^ Fai deet tai hui choong liong!! Yoong Dettol!! Yoong Clorox!! (You must be kidding! *expletives expletives* Go give it a bath!! Use Dettol!! Use Clorox!!)

Hmmm.
It could probably be much worse.

Not a good idea.

Do it! Try the trick I used:

Get a pup, say 'surprise!', smile and hope your mother falls in love! That worked for me...twice! Haha!

I wouldn't recommend a beagle. They're really smart, but they're also really noisy. They need LOTS of attention.

Get a toy dog. They do well in smaller environments and make better companions. :)

I told you you can have mine AND he's already potty trained.

Umm...I should mention he has a slight drooling problem.

Well..think of it this way..having a non pedigree dog..is much easier to look after. They are more "tahan lasak"..pedigree is more "pampered" so less hardy! But if u do get a pedigree..make sure u get the CERT!!
But as Curly Locks say..go to PAWS or SPCA..the pooor animals there NEEDS a home wif LOVE..n if no one takes them..they be put to SLEEP!!!Gone!!Kapoosh!!
N they also have pedigree ones - if u must have one..

SERIOUS...why let the independant pet shops make money..when u can help SPCA..or PAWS..Like their ad says..most ppl only wants pedigree..leaving behind in those shelter the pariah wans =( They too deserve a home

Got my dogs frm there too..n they turn out just as lovable..n just as good as any other pedigree dogs!WOOOF WOOF!

Rin: Hahaha, my mom doesn't fall in love that easily. Thanks for the beagle tip. I don't really like toy dogs, they're too yappety and spoilt looking. Eeee... think Paris Hilton's Chihuahua - YUCK!

Mint: Chutney is adorable. I'd love to have him. Now how do you send a bloodhound via post? Heehee.

Curlylocks & Dimples: Thanks for the tip! I'm definitely gonna check out SPCA or PAWS.

Adriene: Hey babe! I can't adopt a puppy like right now. I need to plan how to ease the idea in first, then look for a suitable pup. It could take a few months. By then, they'd probably be adopted. I hope they find good homes!
